The PlayStation 1, released in 1994, was Sony’s bold entry into the console market and quickly became a massive success, reshaping the industry with its focus on CD-based games and strong third-party support. It introduced millions of players to legendary franchises like Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, and Resident Evil, establishing the PlayStation brand as a gaming powerhouse. The original PS1 controller was simple yet effective, with a comfortable shape and the now-iconic triangle, circle, square, and X buttons that remain standard today. Later, the DualShock revision added dual analog sticks and vibration feedback, setting a new standard for modern controllers. The PS1’s vast library, combined with its accessible and forward-looking design, made it one of the most influential consoles of all time and a defining system of the 1990s.
